Say Ta Nar school.

Today I visited Say Ta Nar school. Say Ta Nar is a Burmese migrant school which has a link with Pirniehall Primary school in Edinburgh, Scotland.
I have met the head teacher Pho Cho and his wife Nisha a few times, but this is the first time I have been to the school. Emily, the Canadian volunteer invited me to watch her class for the morning. She teaches english from 9am-12pm every Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday at Say Ta Nar.

She is really a brilliant teacher and she connects with the kids really well, they enjoy her classes. The kids are really sweet and fun, just like the Hle Bee kids. Except there are a lot less kids at Say Ta Nar school.

In the afternoon, the main funders for Say Ta Nar school visited, I'm not sure if this was a planned visit or not. The kids were ecstatic to see these people. Mr Beno is the main guy I think and he brought some of his friends from Italy. They were really touched by the kids' willingness to learn and that they were asking for more work. They seem like very generous people. They asked the children if they had any questions or if they needed anything.

Then, the children sang for them. They were fabby, singing a variety of songs including 'Auld Lang Syne'. They all held hands while they were singing this. Very sweet.

Pho Cho's son joined in.

Pho Cho and Nisha's son playing with one of the older boys.

Pho Cho and Nisha are very excited to visit everybody from Scotland and are planning to come to Scotland next year. I told them that they are welcome to come to our house and meet our family. Mum, we are planning a dinner party for Pho Cho, Nisha, Emily, Mary, her family. Be prepared :)

My posts are in the wrong order again. Yesterday, GA and I did some little errands. We passed a pet shop because he was interested in buying a fish. Then...
I fell in love with these adorable 'hamsters'. I don't actually know what they are, if anyone knows, tell me (Caro). They are just like hamsters, but they are about half the size of my index finger. They are honestly, the sweetest animals I have ever seen and they remind me of little Jeremy home. It's 450 baht for a cage £7.97, but I did't ask how much the hamsters were. I was so close to buying one there and then, but I should really ask the owner of homestay :)
One problem I discovered when I was dicussing this with mum on the phone is that the Geckos in my room could easily crawl through the bars..no idea what they'd do. Maybe they'd fight with the hammy's..

Speaking of which. Outside the homestay gate, I saw a Gecko with no tail. crazy.

These photos are from a while ago but I thought I'd share because they are so sweet. The Grade 6 boys did these little paper hearts for me.

I didn't realise you could open them, I don't know if you're supposed to or not. But I did & this is what I found inside.
I'm off, night night. x

  1. What beautiful work from the Hle Bee children. Irvine would be pleased to see it. I'll email to check he's reading.

I think that gecko had his tail eaten off by a little tiny hamster so that's another reason NOT TO GET A HAMSTER!!!!

I am amazed that you got to meet Beno. I have heard so much about this and he brings really strong funding to Say Ta Nar. Mary will be very happy to see this blog. Pho Cho and Nisha are totally amazing, loving and kind people. It would be an honour to welcome them to our home but goodness knows what I'd cook! You can do the cooking.

Great blogging. Fabby photos. I love you.

  5. Hi Lou, those creatures you are holding are Loadabull Hamsters - they only eat Elephant's tonsils and grow to be the size of a Great Dane! Oh and by the way, you catch swine flu, malaria, hepatitis everysort and ingrowing toenails just from touching them!!! D'ya believe me?
    Keep up the good work.
    Love

  6. Hi Louise tis my first visit to your blog and wow I am mega impressed, what a great experience
your having. I can imagine all the Burmese kids in your classes will end up with lovely Scottish accents and western phrases like whatever, and awsome! Ali says hi and she would love a big bottle of wine like on the blog. Mum's here sticking firmly to her rigid dietoops sorry rigid life changing style! but alas the entry of a rather large chocolate into mums gob has shattered my illusions, but mums not bothered. I once had ducks head in a thai restaurant and was presented with a very large bill!!!do you get the joke if not don't worry. Keep safe and enjoy lol john T
